Animal Faces are another Toronto band kicking my ass right now. These guys play a hectic, mathy brand of screamy Hardcore that isn't too far removed from the likes of The Kidcrash and Caravels. I am also going to mention a very favorite band of mine from North Carolina named The Ladderback. These songs have that jagged, tearing Post-Punk rhythm that wouldn't have sounded out of place on 31G Records. Throughout the recording, the vocals tend to follow along at a relatively unhinged pace. Never getting too screechy or too guttural, Ryan's voice remains at a level that is altogether pissed and powerful. With 'Analytical Dreaming', Animal Faces are proving, once again, that Toronto is without a doubt the hub of modern Hardcore in North America.

Yes!!!! It is finally here!!! This is the new album by one of the best Post-Hardcore bands going right now. Animal Faces are from Toronto and yes, I have posted about them before. I am absolutely in love with this band. They play a totally solid, inspirational brand of twitchy, off-time/off-kilter Post-Punk/Hardcore/Screamo... They definitely defy definition. The six songs here are exactly what I have been craving lately. The guitars go from clean to crunchy and are totally up front in the mix. Ryan, who plays guitar and sings, has this specific rasp to his voice that is just so infectious, I can't even describe what I feel when I hear him sing and scream. I am so excited for the possibility of these guys touring on this record. I want them to play The Morgue so bad I can taste it. This record is beautiful and the men in this band are totally dedicated to D.I.Y. What more could you ask for? I am not going to spend too much time comparing Animal Faces to any other bands. You will just have to listen and see for yourself. I for one am going to press play again, for the 9th time today. Yes!!!!

2012 Year-End Round-Up!!!!!!

2012 has been an outstanding year for D.I.Y. Punk and Hardcore. So outstanding in fact, I have been hesitant to compile my "best of" list because bands have continued to release amazing, life-changing records all the way up until right now. Literally. The Callow EP came out today and already it has blown most other releases of the year out of the water. I was going to stick with the typical top-ten collection, but, as you can see from below, I just couldn't narrow it down. Anyway, every one of these bands has had a very deep and profound effect on my psyche, my mood and my general outlook over the last year. I can't thank them enough.

By the way, these records are in no particular order. Each and every one of them means as much to me as the next.
