Sleep Bellum Sonno – 'Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living' LP

Sleep Bellum Sonno At Bandcamp

From Long Island, NY we have the second record from Sleep Bellum Sonno.  Now, I am not usually one for concept albums, but, there is a very interesting story told through these songs.  Apparently, Judge Us… “Tells the tale of twelve characters who all intertwine into one larger story of a husband/father leaving his wife and two sons behind”.  The music here is beautiful.  A mix of ambient Post-Rock and aggressive, raging Post-Hardcore.  With two vocalists (the singer and the screamer/yeller) the sound comes off a little easier on the ears than if only one singer was trying to tackle all the highs and lows at the same time.  They play around with that loud/soft dynamic and are very competent at it.  Some of the songs are rather twitchy, almost bordering on aural paranoia.  And, there are even some gang vocals thrown in for all you mic grabbers out there.  I have to say, I can't think of a single band to compare them to.  Others have mentioned Pianos Become The Teeth or My Heart To Joy...  I don't know...  Sleep Bellum Sonno are definitely doing their own thing.  Sometimes lilting and depressingly beautiful, other times total gut-wrenching anger and pain.  A beautiful cacophony of sound for anyone with an open mind towards heavy music.  Also, if you are interested, you can download the entire album for free from their Bandcamp page, along with everything else they have released.  Very nice of them.
